Satelitte A10 shuts down by itself

Hello,

My Satelitte A10 laptop is overheating really quickly and gives me a warning message. I noticed that the cooling fan does not run for a long period of time. The fan runs for 2-3 seconds, stops, again for 2-3 seconds, stops, .......

The heatsink is not clogged with dust.

Is it a problem with the fan or with the motherboard?

Thanks

Re: Satelitte A10 shuts down by itself

In my laptop the on again off again symptom is quite normal as it automatically switches ON/OFF when temperature reaches a certain level. Do you use a cooling pad? I do and helped. Before I got my cooling pad I make sure my laptop is not flat on the table. I mean I use a book or a marker about half an inch high to lift and elevate the side where the heatsink is... I call it my laptop's 'breathing space'.

I forgot to mention by the way... it may not be toasted mobo 'yet' ... but if that continues it may just affect some components in the mobo.

Re: Satelitte A10 shuts down by itself

I don't know much about toshiba laptops but mabe the thermal compound that they use between the heatsink and the cpu has dried out and is not transfering the heat from the cpu to the heatsink properly, i would check that out before your mainboard does get damaged it could also be the intel 852gm chip over heating mabe the heatsink on that main chip is loose or the thermal compound on that heatsink is dried out,i hope this will help you out
