Inspiron E1505 wide screen support gone

Booted up the 1505 yesterday and usable screen size was smaller than the screen and there was black on both sides where the background pic should have filled in because it's set for stretch to fill the screen. Tried refresh, and changing the pic and changing it back to no avail. Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Can I assume you have right (context) clicked on the screen scroll down to "properties" left click to get into display properties and confirmed it is set how you want (stretch?) some time if you change the setting "apply" then go back (stretch) and apply that will work. Also not clear always smaller or just "desktop"? If always then go to Video card controls, on mine something like fit to screen.
