[SOLVED] Upgrading My Laptop

I have a Compaq Presario C501NR.
It came installed with Windows Vista Home Basic with an 80gb HD.
It came with 512 RAM and I'm finding it hard to do things like gaming etc. with such low RAM.
I want to find the best and cheapest way to upgrade my RAM from 512 to atleast 1gb.
Any suggestions?
All help is appreciated.

Re: Upgrading My Laptop

Im not sure exactly what kind I need. I did a little research and found out that I need something like SO DIMM DDR SDRAM.
Also, should I mix my 512mb with a 1gb ?

Thanks..
I was searching, and I'm not sure but I think this is the one I need. Can someone help me confirm this?
I have these two pictures, I think they will help in verifying.

Once again, all help is appreciated!

Re: Upgrading My Laptop

Ok, thanks for all of your help. I know that it has two slots and one of them is occupied with 512mb ram stick.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to install them. Shouldn't be too hard though, right?

Re: Upgrading My Laptop

just hold them seated into the slot as you click it back down
disconnect it from the power and remove the battery while you are fitting them

Btw, if it doesn't fit I can always get a refund right?

Re: Upgrading My Laptop

disconnect it from the power and remove the battery
you take the screw out of the covering plate and remove it
you pull the securing clip to one side and the ram slot will spring up
remove the stick of ram in there and spring up the lower ram slot
put the ram into the slot
hold the ram seated into the slot as you click it back down
do the same with the other slot
put the cover back on
put the screw back in
replace the battery
power it up

Re: Upgrading My Laptop

Ok, so I ordered the RAM and it just came today.
I tried installing both of them, however whenever I would check to see how much RAM my pc now had, it would say 1013. (1gb)
So, I took the ram out of the second slot (top slot) and looked again, and it said the same thing. So obviously, I'm either installing it into the second slot wrong or something.. Any suggestions anyone? I've been trying it for about an hour now.

Btw, the 512 - 1gb already made a big difference. :)

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading My Laptop

I simply pushed the top slot in a bit further.
I was being too gentle
But after that it works fine, and my computer speed is very much faster.!
