Inspiron 8600 - Running Slowly

Can someone please help figure out the reason why my laptop is running as slow as it is, and help me fix it. Thankyou in advance.

Tomavfcno1, there are some very good people on here, but as yet I don't know of any with Clairvoyant abilities. I know you have an Inspiron 8600 and it's running slow ????????

Re: Inspiron 8600 - Running Slowly

Thats about all I know, tell me what information I need to provide in order for you to help me. And I will provide.

I do not use the laptop very regularly, it is a relative of mines laptop.
But they gave it to me in the hope that I could through TechSupportForm fix it, like I did my own PC.

Ok. The amount of Ram. What sort of programmes you are running. A quick suggestion, Google Ccleaner and download it then run it. It is the best cleaner I've seen. make sure after running it you click on issues and remove what ever it says.

Re: Inspiron 8600 - Running Slowly

When you have done that reboot. Now click on Start/control panel/system. You will now see a panel showing you which Xp you are using, Service pack( Sp 1 or 2) and how much Ram you have.
Now click on Advanced/settings and select Adjust for best performance. (This is one of the best speed tips in Windows.) click ok and back out to the desktop.
At the Desktop click on Start/all programs/accessories/system tools/ defrag. Then click on Defrag.( this will take some time so I suggest you go and do something else).
With luck your Laptop should show a considerable uplift in speed.
Be aware if you have a Desktop and a Laptop with exactly the same specs the laptop will be quite a bit slower.
