Dell Inspiron 5160
I bought the unit used from an auction, installed a new hard drive, and when booted up, it comes to a white/grey screen that says I need an admin password. I have contacted Dell about it but got no answers. Can anyone tell me where the BIOS/CMOS battery is and what it looks like so that I can reset it so I can get past this and use the laptop? Pics would help if anyone has them. |

Re: Where is the CMOS/BIOS battery?
if you want an answer on a laptop post in laptops or it's assumed it is a desk top
with laptops there is no specific location or specific method for clearing the cmos,it varies by brand on the dell site enter the model no. ang go to the download section for it and download the manual clearing the cmos on a laptop does not mean it will clear the password, passwords on a laptop are usually put in place to render them useless in case they are stolen and they have to be cleared by the manufacturer, which they will only do on proof of ownership
