Wireless driver problem

I just bought a Sony VAIO laptop from a friend, but I have a problem with the wireless network card driver install. I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows XP pro to get rid of all the junk that was on it before...but every time I try to install the driver via the device manager it finds the driver installs it but I get an error telling me that it "can't start the hardware" and I don't know what in the hell that means. I even tried it with the wireless on (there is a little switch at the top that turns the wireless on and off) so I'm at a wits end here....

according to the device manager and the manual the card is a
LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter

Will someone PLEASE help me figure this out?

I'm also going to post this in the "Cabling and Network Cards" forum to see if anybody there knows what's going on

thanks in advance

Re: Wireless driver problem

I have done that...even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver like the error message thing told me to do and nothing seems to work!

Thank you for trying to help though.
