Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

I hope I'm posting this in the right section

Recently my brother installed a Digital Notepad onto my computer . The brand of the Notepad is Medion. Ever since he has done so, if I try to standby or hibernate my computer I get an error message saying:

"System Standby Failed
The service 'WTService' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again."

There is no service called WTService in my processes in the Task Manager, and I have since uninstalled every aspect of the program without managing to get rid of the error message. I have restarted and used a system restore to before the program was installed without success.

Also, my aunty has installed the same program and gets the same error message on her Dell laptop, which also has XP (which is what makes me wonder if I'm posting in the correct section... I don't know if it's maybe a software problem).

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions, or if it looks like my laptop may be taking a trip to the computer doctors.

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

Hi,

I would perform a system restore to a couple days before this became an issue. The steps for using the System Restore are detailed here.

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

Thanks. However, I have already attempted a System Restore, and it was unsuccessful in resolving the problem.

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

Go to Start > Run... and type services.msc and hit Enter. See if you see anything related to the program there.

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

I am having the same problem. Followed your instructions and turned it off - or so I thought. When I logged on today it was back. I have just turned it off again and I will see if it stays off this time or whether it starts itself up. It is described as being an 'automatic start up type'.

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

As I feared, the switch off only lasts until I shut down. Is there any way to make this permanent? My DH (who is the one who loaded the Median Digital Laptop stuff onto my laptop) tried removing the programme, but in the process it also removed part of the aol start up. When he reloaded it aol was OK again, but I am left with needing to manually switch off the unwanted 'WTservice' at each start up. Any ideas anyone?

Re: Standby Problem with Toshiba laptop

What does it say the Path to executable is in the Service Properties?
