Dell Smartstep 250 boot problem
Hi,
due to repeated overheating of my CPU, I just opened up my Dell SmartStep 250 and removed lots of dust from the cooling fan. I took care not to bend any pins of the microprocessor, but after reassembling everything, the notebook just won't start again. The colling fan does work though, and I can open the dvd drive, but no booting occurs. I have removed and reconnected both memory modules one by one, but that didn't solve the problem. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks, Thomas |

Re: Dell Smartstep 250 boot problem
Hi Thomas,
I would re-seat the processor again. Hook up the laptop to an external monitor if possible to see if you can get an image. What are the specs of this laptop?

Re: Dell Smartstep 250 boot problem
Matt,
thanks for your reply! Reseating the processor didn't help, and I also don't get any image when I connect another monitor. It really looks as if the processor doesn't start at all. Could it be that - although I was very careful - the mortherboard may have been damaged somehow? Thanks, Thomas |

Re: Dell Smartstep 250 boot problem
It may have been. Have you found the CMOS battery on the motherboard?
