dell inspiron 700m USB 2.0 problems

The USB ports on my inspiron 700m stopped working

any device plugged into one of the ports results in an unrecognized device
while the top port only gives usb 1 speed.

i have reformatted the computer with no luck
there is no option in the bios screen to enable usb 2.0

running windows xp with sp2

any thoughts? please help, thank you

The USB controller may have malfunctioned which I have seen a couple times. You could get a PCMCIA USB card which should work.
