Asus R1E Tablet, seized on boot
Was working yesterday when I turned it off, but today it seized up immediately on boot. No screen activity at all. I plugged in the ac adaptor, but that didn't help. I let it "charge" for 4 hours or more, but that didn't help. I unplugged it, and the charging light stayed on. I've been letting it sit unplugged for several hours. I don't know any other way to shut this unresponsive computer down than to let it drain its batteries dead. Except to pull the batteries, but I have no idea if that would do any damage or not.
Current state - computer unplugged, power indicator on, recharge indicator on, generating heat (I've got it under a fan). By all other indications, dead. Previous to this it had failed to boot on the first try several times - it would run through the initial screens but turn off before Vista loaded. It always started on the 2nd try though. Any advice? If it's got to go back (would rather send it back permanently than give Asus a chance to repair it, given their track record), I'd like to get a few files off the hard drive first. Is there an easy way to do this, like put it in an external enclosure and access it from a different computer? I guess that is what the 2.5" enclosures are for? |

Re: Asus R1E Tablet, seized on boot
After letting the batteries run down, I plugged it into the AC adaptor. It booted up to the point where Windows loads, then shut down. I hit the on switch again and this time it booted all the way into windows.
Still looking for advice. |
