The Frankenstein Monster (HP ZT1100 series)
I was given an HP zt1180 (P3 1.2 GHz, 15" SXGA+ LCD) laptop with a bad motherboard and no optical drive.
I purchased a HP zt1155 P4 laptop (P4 1.4, 14" XGA LCD) that was missing the LCD and backlight, HD and power cord. During a wild lightning storm I assembled the good body parts and organs creating my monster laptop. For the brain of this beast I implanted a D-stepping 2.2GHz P4 brain.(Same voltages, FSB, and cache as original P4) Muhahaha, All was well, or so it seemed. http://www.techsupportforum.com/imag...es/1-upset.gif Two problems: A: the Cpu was read as only a lowly 1.2 GHz. B: the video display is set for a 14" screen, resulting in a double image and anomaly with horizontal displacement. The cpu speed was corrected by installing an updated bios meant for a zt1185 (P4 1.5 GHz, 15" SXGA+ LCD)laptop. Had to trick the machine by using this alternate bios with the original zt1155 bios loader. The updated bios now raised the cpu speed to a cool 2.0 GHz. (close enough to 2.2 and should run cooler with the 10% underclock). Problem B remains... distorted video.I am pretty sure that the video bios needs to be flashed. The zt1100 P4 series laptops all shipped with the same motherboard, except a bluetooth deviant. Using helper programs I have tried flashing the video bios (I believe it is included in the main system bios rom image, but I have only received error messages trying to flash the rom.I am hoping someone might have an idea on how to flash this video bios or has a link to its rom. By the way adjusting the resolution or setting the correct monitor type under Windows has not been able to correct the problem. There is no distortion when plugged into an external monitor. PPs: no I do not want to use a 14" screen. I want this beast to be big. |
