My CMOS Battery?
Hi All..
I have had my laptop (an Acer 5633) for under a year... however, my time settings are not being saved. I've done some research and it looks like the CMOS battery might have failed. How can I replace this? And where is it located? Many thanks! Amnesia |

Re: My CMOS Battery?
which time settings are you looking at - in windows or within bios? If you are talking about windows time being wrong, check your bios and see if its correct there. If its not correct - then its the battery.
If its correct in your bios but not your windows, just right click your clock, click on adjust date and time, click on the internet time tab, then select automatically sync with an internet time server.

Re: My CMOS Battery?
Hi sobeit666.
Every time I turn my computer on, the windows time is not correct. If it goes into standby for an hour an a half, time will stand still. None of my auto-updates work and the computer doesn't full load until I have done "automatically sync with an internet server". How do I check the time in the bios? |

Re: My CMOS Battery?
when you first turn on the computer, it should say something about press a key to enter setup. Press whatever key it indicates.
most likely its just windows time thats wrong, go ahead and set the time as I suggested in my other post.

Re: My CMOS Battery?
Hi, I have done what you said. And upon turning the laptop on and off the time will be miles away from what I set it.
The time in the Bios is also incorrect and consistently changes. |

Re: My CMOS Battery?
Acer want me to send my laptop in, as it's definitely the CMOS battery, but i'm not sending it in until after Christmas (in the new year).
Is there any program I download that will connect to the internet everytime just to update the date etc... i had one a while ago but forgot the name. |
