HP tx1220us: Vista will not run
Hello everyone, This morning I purchased an HP tx1220us tablet PC from CompUSA, who is unfortunately going out of business for good, thus returning the item is not an option. Upon bringing the device home, I began unpacking it and setting it up.
However, I soon learned that Windows Vista Home Premium (which came preinstalled mind you), will not install nor boot itself to an operable state, even in safe mode with command prompt and system recovery. Frequent BSoDs that randomly arose indicated problems with the Memory Management and Page In Memory Errors. When these BSoDs didn't show, (on attempting a normal boot) it indicates that there's something wrong a random .dll file or that "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation." When I restart, the same random set of problems arise. Under System recovery (when I can actually get it to get to the recovery console) I find that no successful previous installation was ever found to boot from. I first called HP Tech Support and they ran me through the loops to see what was wrong (an experience to be endured, not enjoyed), and they eventually had me run a Hard Disk Drive error checker through the system BIOS and told me to call tomorrow. Which resulted in success (no errors) two hours later. Suspecting that there might be something wrong with my memory I popped in a spare Ubuntu CD that I had lying around and ran MemTest86 from it then headed for my work. I just got back to find that MemTest86 ran 13 times with zero errors. After doing this, I find that I still have the same problems except one, I can consistently achieve access to the recovery manager. My question is this? Is it still possible that there is a physical defect with anything inside my new laptop? Or is this simply another problem to chalk up to Microsoft's absolutely fantastic *cough* Vista *hack* product? |
