Dell Inspiron, wont go past windows XP startup screen.

I have a dell inspirson 6400/E1505

Yestarday, I turned my comptuer off using the power button. This morning I tried to use it but after the Windows XP start-up screen the screen goes blank. The LCD light is still on, but the screen just doesn't load to my log-in.
I have no idea why this is since last night I had no activity on my computer, all I did was browse a few websites that I normally go on.

I've tried to load up all the safe modes (network etc.) but when all of the windows files load, it just freezes and nothing happens.
I've run a diagnostics test with f12 at the dell startup screen, but it found no problems.
I'm running out of options, and i DONT want to reformat. There's too much on my computer that I cant afford to lose.

Try booting to the last known good config. When you see the boot menu, select Last Known Good Configuration (Your most recent settings that worked) and then Windows XP. When your computer boots, see if the problem goes away.

Re: Dell Inspiron, wont go past windows XP startup screen.

hi, well iam no expert on computers but i had the same problem with my laptop. and since it would show the loadup screen i new it wasn't the graphics card or anything. i looked through some diagnostics and it said that my harddrive was empty and nothing was on it, so i changed my harddrive and put everything back on it and it worked. so i suggest try changing ur hard drive. iam not 100% so just buy a real cheap hard drive so if it isn't u havn't wasted that much money and if u cant take it back, but if its not that do the diagnostics by pushing F12 when loading up or says 2 launch in safe mode etc
