Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
First, go into device manager and check for any yellow !'s next to any items. Post back here any items marked with yellow !'s.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
Device Manager showed one yellow icon at one of the sound, video, lines. System freezes when I try to troubleshoot that device and many other times. It won't recognized USB devices, network cable and dies when I try to enable the wireless card. I have refreshed the pagefile.sys with no positive effect. I was able to write to my CD drive. CPU usage shows 100% all the time, when I get into task manager all processes show 0%.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
bad device is "Conexant AC-LINK Audio" when I disable it I am able to connect to the internet via a network cable or wireless. I am still unable to use the USB ports. I have updated the drivers for these ports and I have downloaded the drive for the Conexant device. The Conexant driver download fails during its install.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
Here's more information: Computer is an ACER Travel Mate 4010. If I uninstall the device (Conexant AC-Link Audio). System will re-install on start-up. Even with new drivers it shows up yellow in device manager. Error code is "Code 10." No matter what I cannot get the USB devices to be recognized.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
It sounds like Windows is having a lot of problems, and they may be malware related. At this point I would personally advise backing up all data and doing a clean install, or at least a repair install.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
My next step would be to uninstall all of the USB devices and restart the machine. Hopefully they will then be detected and re-installed. What do we think of this plan?

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
Give it a shot. I don't know if this will work or not but it is worth a try.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
That sounds like the CMOS/RTC battery is going bad. Is the laptop still under warranty?

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
The CMOS battery is located on the underside of the motherboard I believe. If you are willing to open up the whole back cover you should be able to access it.

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
Will changing this battery:
1) Cause me to lose any CMOS info? How to recover 2) Solve my USB and network cable issue? I am getting to the point of paying for repair service, but if this will do it I can open the box. Thanks for your continued help. You guys are great!! |

Re: ACER Won't Recognize USB or network
It will reset to the defaults but that has already happened several times. It shouldn't cause problems. It may or may not solve the issue of the USB and LAN port however I think that may be a Windows issue.
