Cry aspire 1690 ati2dvag error

Hi All,

I have recently (ie - last night) started getting the horror BSOD in relation to an infinite loop error with respect to 'ati2dvag' device driver.

I trawled through various sites last night on another computer in an attempt to locate a fix and rectify, however without success.

I'd use the laptop to try and find out what is going on , however , I cant even boot the laptop into safe mode.

i reinstalled everything from the boot and recovery cd's supplied by acer with the laptop (which was purchased new), and am still getting the same error.

is there any way of 'bypassing' the video detection on booting to xp (ie - have it revert to 'basic' video mode) - so at least i can get into windows and look at whatever may be happening ?

thanks
what else to do

If you get the BSOD in safe mode then your best bet is to do a repair install with an XP Home disk which will erase all the drivers. I am really surprised though that it didn't work in safe mode. Try booting to VGA mode and see what happens.

Hey, I tried to boot into VGA mode - and it gets past the initial problem , however , because it was still 'setting up' xp - goes through the whole 'windows will now adjust your display' procedure - which forces the hang again.

The problem has now escalated and now the laptop will turn on, the fan will spin for a couple of seconds, and then stop , and the LCD wont even register, ie - it stays black as though it wasnt receiving any power. I've tried powering on with just the battery inserted (no power lead), and without the battery (just the power lead) , and with both --- still no success ... looks like i might have to junk it and send it in for repairs ($640AU for a m/board + $70/hr labour).

If it is the graphics card (it is sounding like it is unfortunately) then you would be better off buying a new laptop unfortunately. Try taking out the RAM and seeing if you get a different result.
