Earphone Noise/Disturbance
Hey all,
I bought an HP notebook two months ago and it's working great. However, I've noticed something recently that wasn't there in the beginning. When I plug earphones in, there's always a low hum/disturbance. Don't exactly know what to call it. The hum is low enough that it can't be heard when listening to music or playing a game, but I can hear it when things get quiet. It changes in pitch at random, but especially when the CPU is active. There are two earphone outlets on the laptop, and I can hear it from both of them. However, it doesn't happen when I'm just using the laptop's speakers or when I press the mute button. And as I said, this sound wasn't there in the beginning. It's something that's started very recently. My question is, could this be an issue that's cropped up with the laptop, or is there a problem with the earphones? I don't currently have another pair to test this out. I've tried fiddling with the Volume Mixer settings, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm using Windows Vista Premium, and the sound card is Realtek High Definition Audio. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks! Last edited by Duskwind; 11-17-2007 at 02:48 PM. |

Re: Earphone Noise/Disturbance
This is exactly the same problem I am having with my HP db9000 notebook. Everything was fine, then one day it started humming and hissing through the speakers I have hooked up to the headphone jacks. I'm still looking for a solution. I'll post here if I find one.

Re: Earphone Noise/Disturbance
Hi LexSucio,
I bought a new pair of earphones and that seems to have solved the problem. I still hear a hum, but it's VERY soft. Or to put it another way, I have to try hard to hear it. It could just be that the new pair isn't as good as the old one, but I recommend you give it a shot. |

Re: Earphone Noise/Disturbance
I know this is really late, but just in case other people are having this trouble, I too have a HP laptop and it was humming like a mad cat but I happened to get these earphone from Radius called Atomic Bass http://www.radiusearphones.com/ and they took out the hum for me. Always worth a shot.
