CMOS battery on sony vaio..

Hey all,
Im trying to fix a sony vaio vgn-fe660g laptop for a friend. His cmos battery is dying. Most laptops use the basic coin 3v batteries..right. Well, i've been hearing that sony uses sometimes a special battery called a ram battery..

I've looked everywhere for a service manual and none to be found. I also heard that sony are A-holes for customer service and wont help unless u shipped it in to be repaired..lol anyhow,..if it does use a coin 3v battery can i just use a generic version or does it have to be a special sony kind??

any ideas would help..thanks..

Hi, and welcome to TSF,

You just have to look at the battery, and if its a standard Lithium cell battery then thats what you replace it with. Some laptops used proprietary CMOS/RTC batteries but most use the standard CR2032 battery.
