Over Heating Problem
Hello everyone,
I am having a overheating problem with my laptop (HP Pavilion zv6000). The computer is as clean as a whistle iv made sure of that. Here are some things i can tell you that might help you narrow the problem down. *Brand new processor fan. *Chill pad seems to make it overheat faster. *seems to last longer when the laptop is not charging(contrast is a low lower) *Over heats with in 15 minutes plugged 45 unplugged. Again what i am asking is if anyone can give me some ideas on what is making it overheat. Thanks. ~tyrell Last edited by tyrell444; 10-28-2007 at 01:35 AM. |

Re: Over Heating Problem
I would check that the processor fan is working and that it is flowing the right way.
If it is not, the chill pad may be interffering with the wring flow of the fan and making it worse. When a laptop is plugged in, the battery will generate its own heat and cause the laptop to be coller. Have you tried plugged in without the battery? I am not sure if this is it but it can be a place to start. |

Re: Over Heating Problem
I am not really sure but just to check, right before it overheats are the fans on as fast as they can be? Also can you look at the tempurate at this point not long before it overheats? Mostly trying to see if the computer is doing what it should as it gets hotter or if there is a problem with that.

Re: Over Heating Problem
What happens (sometimes) the fan will go as fast as they can then just stop. Then after about 5 seconds they'll start back up again for about 10 seconds then stop.. Some times it will just crash out of no where. If this helps any i kept the case of the laptop off to fell how hot the heatsink gets how fast.
The heatsink got to a point where you could not touch it after about a minute and a half. I don't know if thats normal but thats what happened. Oh one more thing, when i have the computer unplugged (not charging) it will go the hole battery life with out crashing. But to simply answer your questions yes it does go really fast before it stops. |

Re: Over Heating Problem
First things first... Did you remember to use thermal compound with the new heatsink??
Im pretty sure that laptop fans are meant to blow out from the side. This is because the fan suck cool air through the heatsink and directly out the side instead of through all the internals of the machine. Download speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan433.exe) and report back to us what temperatures the program is showing you. |

Re: Over Heating Problem
All right let's take a look here.
HD0: 42C Temp1: 54C Core: 82C Just looking at the core temp, thats like 180F.. Again brand new fan seems that there is some thermal gel on the proccesor. Altho it is a little crustie.. It's blowing out of the side like it's ment. Both fans are sucking in, i really can't see what the problem could be. Onlything i can think of is prossecor is going bad.. Edit: When i un plug the charger the core temp drops down to 58C. Last edited by tyrell444; 11-07-2007 at 08:49 PM. |

Re: Over Heating Problem
If you just want to make sure first, Stop playing any games or doing anything CPU intensive, then follow what mattlock said with the thermal compound. Make sure you take your time and get all of the old off. See if that helps. The thermal compund does not cost a lot to go buy a new one, so it is not like your wasteing that much money if it does not work, and if it does work, you saved a lot of money.

Re: Over Heating Problem
www.newegg.com
mostly a lot of online computer part sites will. Reallly it should be most stores that sell parts like CPUs and related. |
