Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Hey, I have a Mesh Powerview laptop, and it seems to be running too hot. It's usualy pretty warm to touch, and sometimes gets hotter and runs slower. Even the power button can get very hot.

When I use Google to try find a solution I only find that the Mesh Powerview 3.4Ghz/3.2Ghz models have this overheating problem. Whereas mine is 2.8Ghz Pentium 4, which was realeased before these. One soloutions to this, that I have read, is take off the panel with the fans on and clean out dust/muck. Unfortunatly my model's fans are on a solid part of the case, not a pannel (appart from one very small one).

I've used SpeedFan to look at the tempuratures inside, because it's a laptop I only get two temp readings and nothing else (fan speeds, voltages etc):
HD0: 46C (green tick)(harddrive?)
Temp1: 52C (fire)(proccessor?)

Any idea/help?

Cheers,
Wisey

Nope, comes up with an error message saying "CPU Temprature cannot be read" and then loads and only tells me the CPU speed and Load, nothing else.

Try this. http://www.pbus-167.com/

I use it on my laptop to monitor temps and cut back n the cpu speed when I do not need full power.

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Okay, thanks. I've installed it, and I see that you can limit the power and proccessor speed, but is there anyway to set it up so it automaticly cuts down on the power when it's not doing anything (or very little), and thus cut down on the heat? Is that what the Dynamic Switching is?

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Yes. That is dynamic switching. It will ramp the speed up and down as needed. Big help to battery life and cooling.

Is it reading your temps correctly?

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Humm, thourght so. Well they're the same as what Speed Fan said they were, but I havn't seen any decrease/change in temparture yet. But my CPU usage seems to be staying at about 15-30% all the time, I may need to uninstall some junk and try and sort that first.

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

A good cleaning with a can of compressed air does wonders for laptop cooling.

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Thanks man, sorry for the (very) slow reply. I forgot about this. Although my laptop is stupidly hot, I think thats how it's always ran. At some point I'll break out with the industrail blower and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help,
Wisey!

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

It is better to used canned air unless your blower has a water trap.

Re: Mesh Powerview - overheating?

Ahh, I see, no condensation. Nah, I don't think it does. I'll see if I can get hold of some canned air.

Cheers,
Wisey
