Laptop shutting down all the time
hello, my laptop is from the HP nc series and recently its been shutting down all the time and randomly. What happens is that the screen flickers a bit before shutting down and everything freezes for a couple of seconds and if this doesnt happen then the windows open and close on their own and then it shuts down.
Any idea on why this might be happening? Software or hardware issues? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. thanks. |

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
Could be either or both: down load an run this:
http://www.pbus-167.com/ Lets see what you temperatures are. Also, does this happen from a idle state, or when you are working on things? Does it happen when you have one particular program running, or web browser up etc?

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
my temperaters are around 60 almost all the time is what i've noticed with using speedfan. not all are 60 but the reading goes like HD0 - 46, Temp1- 60, Temp2- 60, Temp3 - 34.
And the shut downs happen when im working on things and its random, it isnt limited to any program or anything like that. im getting pretty anxious over this. |

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
I don't use speed fan. Does it display in F or C? Also, what processes do you have running?

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
Thats not really bad, then. 60 F would be extremely low
But I like to make sure with programs I am not familiar with. Do a ctrl alt delete and post your processes. You can copy it to paint and save it as a jpg or bmp then add it you your post. How long has this been going on? Been any changes lately, like additional software added, any downloads, any updates? Are you using SP2? You can find that out by right clicking my computer, choosing properties. It will be on the general tab up where it says the version of xp you are running. But, I just assuming you are running xp. Are you?

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
At the posting box choose go advanced. You will notice a icon that looks like a paper clip. Where it says upload file from your computer choose "choose". Browse to where you saved it and choose upload.

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
for some weird reason the paper clip type thing is not responding.
another thing i wanted to mention is that one time when the laptop shut down and i restarted it..the screen was flickering at the blue windows screen too...and for a while nothing happened and then it said something like having trouble identifying windows registration of something and shut down again. does this mean anything? |

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
You could have corrupt OS files. Do you have the disks that came with the laptop? If so click start, run, type cmd, type sfc /scannow. Let it run through the scan. If it asks for the disk pop in the operation system disk.

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
The operating one is the one we want. Go ahead and do the sfc. Thats alot of processes running for a laptop...
Was this from boot up, or while you are running other programs?

Re: Laptop shutting down all the time
Is it running on the battery or power cable? Also, while you were doing the scan did you have anything else open? Also, how much memory do you have in the laptop?
