Can shorted keyboard prevent bootup?

So the other night I spilled a glass of wine into the keyboard of my hp pavilion dv9000. Immediately things started fritzing and the computer appeared to freeze up. As quickly as I could I unplugged it and popped out the battery then turned it upside down and tried to get any fluid that had gotten inside to drain out.

It was about 4 in the morning so there wasn't a lot I could do, but i went out first thing the next day, and got some distilled water. Removed the keyboard when I got home and due to the plastic backing on it, it appeared that no wine got into the rest of the computer at all... I could find no residue anywhere else. I soaked the the keyboard in the water for a bit (and agitated it a bit to try and help get the wine out) and let it dry out for about 48 hours.

Putting it back in today, the computer won't boot up... when I tried turning it on I get three beeps (where normally there should be one) and while the power and fans come on, the screen stays dark (I didn't want to leave it on very long for fear of damaging something).

So two questions, did I not let the keyboard dry out long enough (I've seen ppl post that you should let things sit a week)? And if the keyboard is indeed shorted out, can it prevent the computer from booting at all? Basically does anyone know if other components in the laptop could be damaged somehow even if they weren't touched by the wine or if I go out and buy a new keyboard is it likely the computer will boot right up?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would start by swapping out the RAM. First re-seat each stick. Then, try running with one stick, then the other.
