Hello Techs,
I am having a problem installing XP on Compaq Presario 2100, I am trying to do a fresh install on this laptop but the Xp setup freezes when it says 'Searching for previous versions installed' and it doesn't go any further my cdrom stops spinning my hd lights goes off too so i have to start the computer from the power button, i tried going in to the recovery console it freezes there too when enter choice '1' as it says enter your choice or press enter to exit it says '1.C:/windows' and then when i press 1 it freezes and nothing happens i cant even eject my cd and then again i have to manually shut down the laptop from the power button? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated, Thanks guys. |

Re: XP setup freezing.
Have you formatted the drive? If not, you can try using a Gparted boot CD to delete the old partition(s) and format the drive. Then, you should be able to install XP.
Here's the link to Gparted: http://sourceforge.net/project/downl...9.iso&76131318 It has an easy to use GUI. I recommend that you choose the VESA option when it asks what configuration to use because that is compatible with all graphics cards. |

Re: XP setup freezing.
The file is an ISO image, that is an exact copy of a CD. You burn it with a program like ImgBurn or any other CD/DVD burning software. Then you boot up on it, select the VESA option and wait for it to load. Then you can use it to do things like adding/removing partitions, formatting partitions and resizing partitions.
What you have to do is to delete the current partition(s), create one or more new partitions and format it/them to NTFS. Then you should be able to install Windows, unless there is something wrong with the hard disk or the installation disk. Last edited by MegaSvensk; 10-20-2007 at 05:13 PM. |
