hp pav zv5000 fan replace, now strange problems
One of the fans on my HP Pavilion zv5000t started dying, so I was lucky enough to have a complete same model that I have for parts. I replaced the fan with the parts laptop, booted it back up, and now I have some really weird things going on.
When first turning it on, I get a "compaq" logo rather then my HP logo (before windows loads), next it will no longer run off the battery (not a big deal, I never use the battery), I have to manually push the wireless button to turn the wireless on everytime I boot it up, and finally I have to raise the brightness level of the screen each time I boot up. Once the laptop is up and I have done everything it runs like a champ. Im guessing when I switched the fan I must have reset something, or loaded some old bios, but when I go into bios its still the same version, and I have all of my normal bios settings including the bios password I set. Attempted fixes: I put the old fan back in, I tried updating the bios to the newest version, which I was a version or 2 old, the update went through fine, but no change. I completely took everything apart and reconnected everything. Still having the same results. I contacted HP's chat, but you know how that is, one of the chat techs told me the only way for this to happen would be if I replaced the motherboard, and he asked me 3 or 4 times if I was sure I didnt change out the MB.....the other tech said the fan must have caused it, and to try putting the old fan back in, or sending it in for a analyss from them. Im not expecting much of a fix here, but I thought the whole thing seemed really odd, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on this one. I work on desktops and laptops for a living, and have completly rebuilt hundreds...mainly dells though....although I have taken my HP apart many times for cleaning and other things. |

Re: hp pav zv5000 fan replace, now strange problems
no I havent, but knowing someone else is having the same issue, is not a bad thing (well for me anyways, sorry your having an issue).
What exactly happened? Did it one day just start happening? Did you try and upgrade something? Do you have to press the wireless button, turn up the brightness? Does your battery still work? My battery stoped working as well. Did your logo change from the HP standard one, to a compaq? What model is your laptop? |

Re: hp pav zv5000 fan replace, now strange problems
I have been told that it is my fan that has gone on my HP Pavilion zt3000 laptop. Yet I get a message when I turn the machine on that it has a hard drive error. Could it have both. It runs very slow but boots up and does commands at the speed of a snail. Can you advise

What is the exact error you are seeing?
You know Im not sure the model, but I have a very similiar HP "parts" type laptop that looks just like yours. If its the same, I may have a working fan for you if your interested. Let me know the exact error msg your seeing on the hard drive issue. |

Re: hp pav zv5000 fan replace, now strange problems
Yikes, really could be anything. If it were me, I would try the basics. Test the harddrive, see if you can reinstall windows, etc.
Sorry, your issue is totally diferent them mine. Mine works fine, just for some reason it seems to have reset to some old manufacture settings. Almost like an old bios or something. Mine still works, but just has annoying little strange issues. If you give up, I might be willing to buy yours for parts depending on the condition. :) And to answer your question about how the laptops compair. My zv5000 is much more of a desktop replacement. If you just want a laptop to sit on the couch with, it does the job nicely. The IBM you listed is much more of a portal laptop. Much lighter, WAY better battery life, and probably more durable. Re: hp pav zv5000 fan replace, now strange problems
I have a HP zv6000 and my fan is making horrible noises. If I lift the laptop side to side it stops. I have tried finding instructions on how to change the fan to no avail. Does anyone know how to do this and where to get a new fan?
Thanks! |
