System BIOS but no OS boot
Yes, this is yet another fixer and I may just part it out cuz it's an old one... so It's a Vaio PCG F100 or something like that. I can enter and edit Bios (I reset to the defaults btw) and when I let it run through normal boot procedure and stops at "No OS installed." Fine, no problem right, run the Win 98 disc and it's ready to resell... no such luck. When I boot from CD and start the Win98 setup, i can hear the CD spinning for a minute or two but then it stops and the setup never initializes. I've tried two drives and two opticals with no success and I'm quite baffled. Suggestions?

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
I would try clearing the CMOS and see what happens. Double check the boot order as well.

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
Well, come to think of it, replacing the CMOS battery was the first thing I thought of when I first tried to boot this one, because I noticed every time I went to BIOS the time had reset. Anything else I could check?

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
How long did you leave the CMOS battery out?

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
Try keeping it out for at least 20 minutes.

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
So I tried leaving the battery out, for an hour or more until I remembered doing so, and when I went to run the system again, It still won't go past the boot screen without stopping, even when I try the Win 98 setup it still goes nowhere, I think I'm ready to just part it out since I can make as much or more as I could with this thing in complete running condition
Thanks for the help tho |

Re: System BIOS but no OS boot
Does this laptop have a floppy? Did you have the correct boot order in the BIOS?
