Laptop screen turns OFF at normal brightness level
I have a DELL Inspiron E1505 I bought last April. Since last week, the laptop screen turns off a few seconds after it boots or resumes. I did some diagnosis and found it to be related to LCD brightness level.
If I start the laptop without the power cord connected, the laptop screen stays on. If I increase the brightness level, the screen makes a hissing sound and turns off in few seconds. If I start the laptop with power cord connected, the screen makes a hissing sound and turns off in a few seconds. If I manage to reduce the LCD brightness during this time, the screen stays on. Anyone have any idea how can I go about fixing this problem? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Laptop screen turns OFF at normal brightness level
It sounds like you got it with a faulty inverter board. Your best bet since your laptop is probably still covered by warranty is to contact Dell support and have them fix it.

Re: Laptop screen turns OFF at normal brightness level
You said you bought it last April - the warranty is 1 year so wouldn't it be covered?

Re: Laptop screen turns OFF at normal brightness level
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I bought it in April 2006. I only had one year warranty on it. I tried Dell support, but it says they will charge me $40 to even talk on phone and plus $159 minimum for repairs and usually more than that for LCD repairs.

Re: Laptop screen turns OFF at normal brightness level
If that is the case would would save a lot of money by taking it to a local shop. They should be able to order the part and fix it for less than Dell. I would recommend doing that.
