i wanna know what's the most powerful laptop out there .. preferably that it would be quad core or core 2 extreme with at least 2 gigs of ram ( 4 is better) and that it has a separate graphics card (not integrated) and it must be a powerful one for graphics work .. thanks guys .. |

Re: The best laptop money can buy !
The Mobile Core 2 Extreme based on the Santa Rosa core is the best processor and currently the most powerful GPU combo is dual 7950GTX cards in SLI. That combo is hard to find though. Look at this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220210 You might want to custom configure a laptop at ABS which will use quality third party parts. You have the option of the GeForce 7950GTX or the 8700GT. http://www.abs.com/app/config.asp?mono=1994 http://www.abs.com/app/config.asp?mono=1957 At this point it is unclear of which single GPU will come out on top but it looks to me like the newest games at lower resolutions and AA settings will favor the 8700GT while older games at higher resolutions and AA settings will favor the 7950GTX. With the Dell you mentioned above you are stuck with an nVidia Quadro which isn't the best for gaming.

Re: The best laptop money can buy !
thanks TheMatt for replying
but actually i prefer household names ( dell, sony, toshiba, etc) the asus you mentioned is quite good really but isn't the 8600 a little slow ? oh yeah , the laptop won't be used for gaming at all, it will be used for 3d work only (3dmax, maya, photoshop) so won't the quadro fx be better in this case ? and isn't there any laptops with 8800s ?? |

Re: The best laptop money can buy !
Photoshop is mostly CPU intensive. The others will rely on the graphics card but the 7950GTX should do well there. The Quadro would be better but the 7950GTX is top of the line so it should still do well in CAD. Don't look at the GeForce Go 8 series as CAD focuses mostly on the OpenGL API rather than DirectX.
As for the quality, ABS in my opinion is one of the highest quality laptop manufacturers if not the highest. They use higher quality components than companies like Dell and Sony which are less likely to have problems later. Generic is a term often thrown around by many (including myself at times) as being a bad or low quality component, but in actuality a generic PC for example is one that uses industry standard third party parts rather than proprietary custom manufactured parts. Generic PCs have a longer lifetime because the parts last longer and there is more upgrade options within the PC. http://www.abs.com/app/config.asp?mono=1957 Go for the T7600, GeForce Go 7950GTX, 2 GB of Corsair RAM, and the Seagate 7200 RPM hard drive. Your CAD programs will need a lot of RAM and a fast CPU. The highest end GeForce 8 series is currently the 8700GT, but as I said earlier the CAD programs do not put much emphasis on DirectX so much as OpenGL so the 8 series will not provide as much benefit over the 7 series as it would in gaming.
