'Wrong Machine' on a Toshiba M55
I have done a good bit of research on this problem and have found the answer to the 'Wrong Machine' error when loading the recovery disk on other Toshiba models but not for the M55.
It seems that Windows and the DMI string for Toshibas CMOS have a severe conflict. Any windows install other than the factory recovery disk, and even windows updates, will corrupt or destroy the DMI string that is the ID card for the machine. Without a good DMI string the user cannot reload the system using the factory supplied recovery disk. I have tried exploring the recovery disk and typing in the 'name' of the machine from the file 'CHGDMI' and get an instant blue screen and auto reboot. I found a reference to several tools and the one with what looks to have the best prospects for solving the problem is a utility called 'invendmi.exe'. With it on floppy I can get a CMOS page that will allow me to type in new information for the DMI string such as Mfg. Name, Name of Machine (model #) and serial # but so far I have been unable to get the string repaired. I have an M55-s1001 and I do have the correct disk for this machine. Any help would be greatly appricated.
