Poor reception for home....
network. I have an HP Pavilion laptop that is about 4 yrs. old and I have another HP Pavilion laptop from my school that is about 2 to 3 yrs. old. I can set the 2 laptops side by side in my den and have excellent connection on the newer laptop at 53mbps. The other laptop (sitting right beside the other) gets poor to no reception at 11mbps.
Do I need to replace the NIC card or what in the older one or what? I have a Linksys router with a range expander halfway between the router and laptops. |

Re: Poor reception for home....
The wireless card probably is getting a good signal but it is an older wireless B card which is limited to 11 Mb/s. It won't slow down your internet but intranet transfers will be slower.

Re: Poor reception for home....
With an older card I can see the slower speed and download rate but when I look at the connection it says "poor" , "weak" , "no connection", etc.... but I am on my other laptop and it has a strong signal
.Could I replace the card? Would that help? |

Re: Poor reception for home....
It should have a good signal strength and probably does have Wireless G. Does it seem to have this problem on other wireless networks?
Try switching the channel on the router.

Re: Poor reception for home....
Unfortunately the transmitter power on the wireless card of the older laptop might be less powerful. You can get a PCMCIA wireless card if dropping the connection is becoming an issue.
