[SOLVED] Can I replace a fan in a Dell Inspiron 8200?

I have an (older - like 3-4) year old Dell Inspiron 8200. When it's been on for a while, it starts making bad noise from the fan. I'm pretty sure it's the fan. The hard drive is working well. Is it possible and financially reasonable to replace the fan in this thing? The case is not especially easy to open. Thanks in advance!

What you should do is clean out the case of all dust, fans are like $10 for a good one so its not to bad but the dust may just be clogging it.

Thanks! Now - advice at the best way to remove this blasted case??? I don't want to break anything. It's easy to get to the more external stuff, but the inside where the fan is is not so accessible... thanks again.

Re: Can I replace a fan in a Dell Inspiron 8200?

Well, since this is a laptop, it's not exactly what I need, but it's a great link, and I'll see if I can find a similar link to a map of opening up a laptop computer from Dell's page (I looked a little, but not extensively yet.)
thanks!

Re: Can I replace a fan in a Dell Inspiron 8200?

Ta! I appreciate that! I did figure out how to open the case to get to the fan yesterday. I cleaned both fans, and the noise is much better. Still sounds like a bearing is probably going, but much better now. I'll wait a little on the replacement.

Re: [SOLVED] Can I replace a fan in a Dell Inspiron 8200?

while you had it apart you should have checked if there was a oil hole you could have put a drop of oil behind the label on the fans

That's a great idea! It's not hard to get to. I'll check it out.
