Should I upgrade to Windows Vista on my Dell1210?

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 1210 preloaded with Windows Vista Basic. I am currently running a Dell Inspiron 700M with Windows XP. I want to purchase a larger hard drive (WD 250GB) and install it in the XPS but I want to load it with Windows XP, not Windows Vista.

My question is this, can I install the new hard drive, loaded with Windows XP, into the XPS system? Will it work? Should I go ahead and install Vista on the new drive in the new machine or is it not worth it?

First you need to see if it is capable of running it. This utility can tell you. Second, you'll want to see if drivers are available for your particular system. This can be difficult with laptops due to their proprietary nature, especially Dells.
