cd/dvd drive problems

my cd/dvd drive wont play burnt dvds or record dvds anymore. it hardly burns music cds. when i try to burn an iso image or dvd image to a dvd, it will finish, but there wont be anything on the dvd. it appears that information has been burnt, but nothing will show up. a while back i burnt some games to dvds. they dont work in my computer, but when i use them on another computer, they work fine. the autorun comes up, then it runs setup then comes up with some error message. ive run virus scans and all that and nothing comes up. its been like this for awhile, and im real close to just reformating my machine but i dont want to go through all that trouble of setting up my machine again. let me know what ever information you need and ill get back to you.
