laptop keyboard problem

I bought a Acer Aspire laptop 3 weeks ago. I am not connected to the internet yet. It will not play dvds but will play cds. Also the charaters on some of the keys are wrong. ie. the@ appears under the 2 key and " appears under the @ key. I can't find the £ sign anywhere. Help needed please

check your keyboard is set to uk english
