keyboard "U" key sticking/not working
Hi all,
I have a 2.5 year old Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop. For about the past week I've been having sporadic problems with my keyboard that is usually correlated with BIOS beeping at startup. I can't really describe the beeping because it is so fast and continuous that I don't really have time to count the # of beeps. So when this beeping occurs after I have turned on my computer, I go to use my keyboard and notice my "U" key will either not work at all or the "I" key will type out "IU". This will go on for a little while and then all of a sudden my "U" key will get a mind of its own and start sticking ("uuuuuu") wherever the cursor happens to be. In order for me to get it to stop doing that I have to open my Windows Task Manager and either leave it open or close some processes and even this only works for a few minutes most of the time. This makes me think that it has something to do with my memory, but I'm confused by this because I have ALOT of free memory on my computer. One final thing: I had this *exact* same problem 1 year ago and was able to fix it by taking the battery out of my computer and letting it sit overnight. Problem gone for one year. And now here we are again, except this time when I take the battery out the problem is only cured for a short time. I don't get the beeping at start up, but my keyboard will start malfunctioning after about 30 minutes and if I immediately restart my computer there will be BIOS beeping, but if I let it sit for awhile the beeping will not occur. Does anyone have an suggestions at all on how to fix this ANNOYING problem? Thanks in advance...

Re: keyboard "U" key sticking/not working
Hi, and welcome to TSF!
![]() You might need to replace the keyboard, however it is worth trying to re-seat the flex cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard to see if that fixes it. Do you have any experience opening up laptops or removing the keyboard?

Re: keyboard "U" key sticking/not working
I would take it to a local repair shop then. They should be able to fix it.
