ZD8000 is it RIP

Hi All
I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this one,My ZD8000 won't power on,nothing comes on not the hd, fans etc,The blue ac power is on thought which i assume means i have power,
I have checked all the usual suspects like RAM and The HD which are all fine.I opened up the MoBo and nothing looks out of place,I don't have an ossiloscope to check, but i thought maybe a bad capacitor or fets.
Anybody have an idea which components blown and where and type??????
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks Illiadie

Hi and welcome to TSF

It seems to me that this could be Power Supply Unit failure. I think you might have to buy a new one. It seems all directions point to PSU Failure.

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

Hi,
Please describe what happened (if anything) prior to this. Also - post back with the system specs (click the link in my signature for instructions).
Finally - reset BIOS.

Hi Techpro5238
Thanks for your reply,You think it's a PSU failure.......The Ac blue light is lighted on the laptop and the led light on the PSU is also lighted , I thought
indicating power!!!!!! what do you think?

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

It's no problem with the reply here in TSF we are eager to help anyones case who opens up. You should follow the directions that " eneles " gives you because he was probably trained longer than I. Please say your system specs so he can look over it.

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

Since it's a laptop the make/model is enough. Please feel free to help techpro - I have a lot of threads to "look after".

Okay I have never been really good at hardware so I might not be able to fix this but I am thinking it might be your motherboard now that I know that this is not a desktop.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that your motherboard is the cause of all of this, hopefully buying a new one will fix it!!

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

Please check all the connections inside the computer again.
Also - look for miscoloured areas on the print(s) and leaking/bulging capacitors.

Some MoBo's have a history of blown Capacitors, but it's mystery here! As i said in my first post,I checked the mobo because its the most obvious failure here! but nothing out of place or any signs of blown capacitors ie bulging, discolouring or leakage.
I thought maybe it could be also one of the diodes, transistors,Fets but there's no obvious signs
As i Said i could replace the MoBo and it highly likely will solve it,but thats last on my list.I would prefer if i could narrow it down and fix component
level.I thought there might be a history of particular components blowing.

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

I don't know of any known weak parts in that particular computer and, of course, it's hard to troubleshoot when nothing happens.
The easiest and most obvious thing would be a faulty power switch.

It's a "Head wreaker"......... I actually replaced the power panel PCB.No Good,so it wasn't that. as i said the ac power light is on so i was assuming its has current??? but maybe not enough!

Re: ZD8000 is it RIP

Did you find a solution Illiadie? I'm having the same problem, which seems to be rather common for this model.

I'm not ready to sink $300+ into a new motherboard just yet. I have purchased a new (used) ac adapter and battery. The next inexpensive solution is to replace the DC Jack; however, the old one appears to be intact and the posts appear to be firmly in place. I'm thinking the problem is somewhere in the recharging circuitry.

Hi Wild-Blue
No haven't gotten round to it because I have another laptop to use. These MoBo are notorious for blown. Why do you want to repair the DC have you power is the power light on?? if it is don't waste money on it.The problem usually is component level and If you are living in the US
there are a number of places which will repair for 100/200$ eg laptoprepair.com
