[SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 8200

my dell inspiron 8200 will not load, it takes forever to get to desktop,when you get to desktop,there are no icons visible.then i get the blue screen with the message...... PROCESS OR THREAD CRUCIAL TO SYSTEM OPERATION HAS UNEXPECTEDLY EXITED OR BEEN TERMINATED stop:oxoooooof4(oxoooooooo3ox836b4458,ox836b45c,ox805fa160
is this number valid? what should i do?

Do you have any important data? It sounds like a Virus might have messed the system up to the point where it does a BSOD. From here, it sounds like you would be best off copying data to another computer and doing a fresh reinstall of XP. Do you have the recovery disks that came with the laptop?

thank you for the reply,i love this web site,i mailed a donation oout in todays mail.... i dont have anything that important,i was wondering in what order do you install discs, the driver utility disc first or xp install first?,will i have to do this in safe mode? could you give me a little guidance here?

Put the XP disk in your computer. Reboot it and it should boot off the XP disk and you should see a Windows setup CD. It might say press any key to boot from CD, if it does hit enter to boot from it.

If you get that far, post back.

do i reboot in safe mode? is evrything deleted before reinstalling? do you go to f8 screen to do this?when i get home i cant reply,to threads,cause laptop is down,just need to have docks in a row before i get there.....

When you reinstall you have options. You can just restore any corrupted system files on the system that way. Another option is to format, which will erase all the data, and install with a clean start. On a system with a virus I recommend a full format.

so, i put in the xp disc,(the one that came with the comp.) when it was doing the format thing ,it got all the way done,to 100%, then message came up that sytem could not be formatted...... is the hard drive possibly bad? it said maybe the disc is no good, but the disc appears to be in good shape,ive always kept it in a holder,. any suggestions?

Take a look at this page. It will help to determine if your hard disk is in danger of failing and if it needs replacement.
