audio too fast on compaq laptop

Compaq N410c P3. All audio is too fast ie Windows sounds and CDs. Bought 2nd hand. Has it been clocked? Windows Media Player greys out the speed slider control so I can't slow music to an acceptable speed. Any suggestions?

Is this on all sounds/videos, even the Windows sounds? Also, does it do this in other media players?

Hi Matt

Yes, all Windows sounds inc hello/goodbye etc and all CDs etc. Don't have DVD player so haven't had many opportunities to test this. Haven't got other media players.

Uninstall any audio driver in Device manager. Do NOT uninstall any audio or video codecs or any Legacy devices. Just the ADI soundmax device.

Then, reboot and install these:
