Going abroad with new laptop. Will I need a current converter?

Hey all,

I'll be going to the UK in September for Grad School and I'm taking the laptop my parents just got for me (Dell Inspiron 1720 in case it matters). I'm coming from the US. Now, my question is, will I need a current converter for my laptop? The US uses 110v/60hrz while the UK uses 220v/50hrz (I believe). But I heard from someone that newer electronic devices, including notebook computers, can run on either voltage. If a converter is required any suggestions as to a particular brand or model would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for the help.

Just to be safe you can get a voltage converter like a shaving socket if you know what I mean, like a 2 pin to 3 pin for not so much money. we in the UK use 3 pin. please contact me for more info

Hi,

Check the specification for the laptop power supply.

Should be printed on it.

It may well state 120 v ac to 240 v ac in chich case it will be fine when you get to the UK.

At worst you may need to buy a mains power supply unit for your laptop compatible with the UK mains voltage 230v AC

Most laptop PSU are auto ranging from 110 v to 140 v ac
