Lenovo laptop turned off suddenly
I have a lenovo laptop (Model 3000 N100) with XP as operating system. It was working fine but from the last couple of weeks, it turned off suddenly without any warning or message. This usually happens when I am browsing the Internet. Whenever it turned off there is always a warning message in the Application event log, which I dont know is relevant or not but this warning is logged ALWAYS when it turned off.
Detection of product '{8A9B8148-DDD7-448F-BD6C-358386D32354}', feature 'PaintShopPhotoAlbum', component '{25F669D8-9DC1-44D1-A06B-28E42E930387}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\Auto Update\{8A9B8148-DDD7-448F-BD6C-358386D32354}\Interval' does not exist. Any help in this will be highly appreciated. Regards, Umesh |

Re: Lenovo laptop turned off suddenly
Dear Matt,
You are a genius!! I am pretty convinced that the issue revolves around the temperature. I observed that my laptop gets hot and turned off during the battery charging.I got this laptop in India and using it in United states.I dont know about the voltage difference. Lenovo AC adapter of my battery is 65Watt and 20 volts on it. I followed your instruction and the reading is: cpu clock 1730 cpu voltage: Fluctuate between 0.9500 Volts to 1.2625 Volts cpu temp 80 degree Cel HD temp :42 degree cel Kindly suggest the next action Regards, Umesh |

Re: Lenovo laptop turned off suddenly
I am sorry Matt but I missed to tell you one more observation that laptop restarted automatically after couple of minutes. May it helps to narrow down the investigation.

Re: Lenovo laptop turned off suddenly
The CPU temp is above the lower threshold meaning that its too high. It should not go above 70 degrees.
What I would do to start is set the power scheme in Windows XP to Portable/Laptop. Go to Power options in the Control Panel. This will reduce the CPU speed and reduce heat as well. Also, open up the bottom of the laptop using a small screw driver and see how much dust has built up in the bottom. If it is very dusty, take a can of compressed air and blow out the dust. Also, with the bottom panel(s) removed, blow into the side vents to remove dust from the fans. Finally, you might want to consider buying a cooling pad for your laptop. Depending on how much we reduce the temps, it may not come to that. Try the steps posted above and post back how much the temps improve.

Re: Lenovo laptop turned off suddenly
You're welcome. Have you purchased a cooling pad? That will probably finish off the problem so it doesn't come back.
