Thinkpad T42 LCD display issue

Having a wierd problem with my T42. model 2373-1WU. xp sp 2.

The LCD brightness drops to extremely low (almost not visable) every few seconds. Only way to get the screen back is to close the lid and reopen. Then it drops again almost right away.

I've triple checked all the power options, hibernation settings, etc so that nothing is enabled and the screen should stay bright in all conditions. So kinda wild that the little toggle button for lid closer would even be active.

Just downloaded and installed the latest BIOS and Video drivers from the Lenovo site. Also made sure all the WinXP updates are current.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

Hi Joe, and welcome to TSF!

It sounds like your backlight is failing. I would take it to a local shop and have them replace it.

Thanks Matt. That looks to be the issue. Called IBM support and I'm still a few month from warrenty end. My lucky day!
