Exclamation recovery cd problem?

Hi all I just want to say that you guys on this forum are great first of all. I try and do my own research before I post a thread but Im not having much luck w/ a definitive answer on this one. I recently upgraded my ibm thinkpad and am currently awaiting my new 1gb ram and a recovery cd from ibm to reinstall winxp as I had been running win2k pro. Now heres the rub ...The thinkpad originally came w/ winxp installed and I have the COA sticker and product key on the back Im not sure why my brother installed win2k pro on the new hd but he did and thats what I have been using so am I going to have a problem when I use the winxp recovery cd to reinstall xp onto this hd? Thanks for any input

Re: recovery cd problem?

not sure what you getting at... the recovery CD is going to do exactly that...install a clean version of XP as IBM intended....all data will be wipped out and the laptop will be day one new... minus any firmware updates you have done

Re: recovery cd problem?

So a "recovery" cd is basically just another OS cd that will be matched to my computers specific keycode. Ok great I wasnt sure if "recovery" was some kind of system patch.

Re: recovery cd problem?

Nope you should not have any problem, but it will wipe out all your existing data

Re: recovery cd problem?

made to your sytem in device drivers as well... which is a good thing... but as stated before ... I wil lbring you PC back to day 1 condition ... It will keep any bios flashes you have done... Its a good thing to have... If you can get your hands on a XP SPK2 CD there is a repair option that will fix the OS not touch the data... then all you have to do is the updates from the time of the CD to today
