Re: About upgrading of my laptop memory rams
Well first off I'm a bit confused by your internet numbers. You say you're updgrading from a current 54Mbps speed to a 10Mbps. That is a contradiction. 54Mega bits per second (Mbps) is quicker than 10Mega bits per second.
You may mean that you have a dial up connection (54Kilo bits per second or Kbps) and you are upgrading to a Cable or DSL (high speed) internet connection. Either way, the RAM really only comes into play if you are multi-tasking or running programs that are memory hogs. There are a couple of things you can do. One, there is a free application out there called CachemanXP. (I'm assuming you are running WindowsXP). This little tool gives you the ability to see how much of your RAM (512 MB) is available at any given time. It also allows you to free up memory that may have been lost (sometimes programs like Microsoft, chew up a lot of 'resources' aka. memory but don't necessarily free it all when they are closed out.). The other thing you can do is to Crucial website and pop in your specs: HP Pavillion DV2000 Series ( here). They are competitive on memory prices and are a good way at getting the correct memory for your laptop. From there, it should be a matter of removing a panel on the bottom (or the thin panel at the top just north of the keyboard) and popping in your new memory (of course w/ the computer turned off and unplugged). EDIT: Oh btw if it were me and I planned on having the laptop for a bit longer, I would spring the $53 bucks for at least 1GB of memory. 2GB may be over kill, however, memory right now is at an all time low. Unlike other computer parts (older means cheap) memory goes through a lifecycle where the newest is ALWAYS the most expensive. The memory that is about 1 year old is usually at it's lowest point, but then (and here's the kicker) as PC's get older the memory gets more expensive b/c it's usually harder to find. So, with all that said, I would pick some up and pop some in. You'll notice a difference, i'm sure of it. Hope this helps! ![]() ~Ricer333
