CPU Overheating
Guys, recently I noticed that my computer was slow every once in a while. At first I thought it was software related so I deleted some programs I wasn't using, checked for virus/adware and performed defragmentation and error check on both partitions of my HDD... None of those solved the problem.
I noticed on the task manager that the CPU Usage was going from 10% to 80% while running no programs at all... I started doing some research and found that it could be that it was over heating so I installed SpeedFan, a program that tells you the temperature on your HDD and CPU Cores... The temperature on them is getting up to 60C... I then realized that the fan on my computer was off. Up until friday when I turned on my computer the fan started and then it stoped spinning. I found that this is a normal option on Core Duo based computers but right now it is spinning and the temperature is around 51C, which is still very high, and when I run any program it goes up to 61-62... I'm on an HP Pavilion dv5000t laptop. What can I do to either get the fan to spin all time (the option is not on the BIOS and I just upgraded it) or get my cpu to stop going all the way up to 60 and make my computer run normal again... Thanks! Cliffs: Computer CPU overheating, fan is working but CPU is at 51C and when I run something it goes up to ~60 |

Re: CPU Overheating
Hi David, and welcome to TSF!
![]() I would start by taking a can of compressed air and blowing out all the dust from the bottom of the laptop. Remove the bottom panels on the laptop with a small screw driver and use the compressed air to blow out the dust. Remember to always hold the can upright. Set the Power Scheme in Windows XP to Portable/Laptop if you haven't already. You might want to look into a cooling pad. If it comes to that, I will give some recommendations. Remember that the lower threshold for laptop processors is 70 degrees, so if it stays below that at all times you are really OK in terms of temps.
