Hello everyone. My friend's laptop got busted the other day, but I do not know how it broke. I told my friend I would checkout the laptop for him, but I couldn't find out what the problem is so I want to try and ask the experts on this forum. I tried getting some live support from Dell about the issue, but apparently the laptop's support trial has run out. The main problem with this laptop is it won't boot up past the loading screen. So anyway, I uploaded a video to YouTube showing my problem with the laptop and giving out all the information I could. So please watch this video and tell me what you think...

Re: This laptop won't load up! Help!
Hi,
![]() First, go into the BIOS and look for an option called "Quiet boot" or Quiet POST" and disable it. Save the settings and reboot. Now it should show everything its doing. Post what it says when it hangs. The fact that it is not detecting the hard drive suggests it crashed. The CD drive may have also been knocked out of place. Can you boot off a CD like a Windows, Linux, or Memtest86 CD? This may be what is causing it to hang at the POST.

Re: This laptop won't load up! Help!
Okay. I will try that once I get the power supply from my friend so I can recharge the laptop. Once I recharge the laptop, I will try what you said. Then I will reply back in this thread.
Although, earlier I tried putting in a reformat disc to try and reformat the laptop. The disc didn't load up, and the DVD-Drive was first in line in the BIOS. Oh well... but like I said. I will reply back here once I do what you said. Last edited by Geek49; 07-16-2007 at 02:46 PM. |

Re: This laptop won't load up! Help!
Did the DVD drive at least spin up, make noise, or show a light?

I didn't see the end of the video. At least the CD drive is connected correctly. Check if you can boot off one by changing the boot order in the BIOS so the CD drive is before the hard disk.
