Presario LCD Issue
Just looking for some suggestions here.
I have an older Compaq Presario 1800T notebook that has been experiencing some problems with the display. When using the computer the screen goes completely snowy and I can hear a loud arcing/hissing/static sound coming from the bottom of the screen. I took this to mean that the inverter was bad, and have ordered a replacement, however I'm not certain this is the issue. The issue can be resolved by moving the screen back and forth to find the "sweet spot". It seems much like a broken wire, but I can't figure out where it might be. The ribbon cable also looks like it's been exposed to heat and is slightly browned on the edges, but moving this around while the display is on does not seem to make any difference. I'm tempted to try to replace this next, but I dont' want to spend the 80 dollars for a new cable unless I'm sure it's the problem. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would greaty appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to read through this. ! |

Re: Presario LCD Issue
The inverter only controls the backlight I think. The video card will be the screen quality, and the ribbon cable will also affect the clarity. You say the ribbon cable is browned, is there a particular reason for this, it sounds dangerous to me.

Re: Presario LCD Issue
There's no good reason for the cable to be browned on the edges as far as I can tell. I DID see a used replacement cable for sale on Ebay (unfortunately the auction had ended by the time I got to it) but the picture also seemed to look a little brown on the edges. It might just be the a result of a lot of heat that the screen gives off?? I'm really not sure.
I did get the new inverter, however, which ended up not being the problem. I'm still stuck with a screwy looking screen. It's kind of the equivalent of trying to watch cable channels on TV that you don't pay for - the lines are all squiggly and you can't read the screen. I'm tempted to try a new ribbon cable as that is the only thing left that I can think of. Clearly the problem was resolved by moving the screen back and forth and the only pieces with wires are the inverter and the ribbon cable. I'll check back here a few times to see if anyone has any suggestions before I spend the money on the new cable. Thanks ALL for your help! |
