HP ZV5000 - Yep its the power jack
Okay so I'm not so confident with taking this machine apart again Cause I lost some screws last time and I put one screw that is too long in one place and its popping up through the keyboard area with is kinda funny but it still tunes on (as long as the battery has power). So my battery won't charge and it doesn't recognize that its been plugged in (likely due to a broken jack b/c it used to work when I'd wiggle it around). So I have a new idea. I have an older battery that doesn't hold a charge. I was wondering if anyone knows what the different pins are for on the battery. I think I might rip the shell of the old one apart (any idea how to do that without ruining the shell's form?) and then run a power adapter through the battery shell. However, I don't know what the pins are and what the exact voltage I'll need.
Anyone help? Has anyone done this before?? |

Re: HP ZV5000 - Yep its the power jack
Hi, Gordie h
I would strongly suggest not to do this. Have you heard about all the recalls on these batteries and the damage they can do!. These batteries were not even messed with the way you want to do it. What you should do is get the AC adapter socket fixed. This is a common problem with HP and the part ($10.00) is available. You would have to take the laptop apart down to the MoBo to solder the adapter on. Or take it to a quailified repair shop that does this type of work ($130.00-$175.00 est.) Your safety and the ones around you is more important than any laptop. Please reconsider your options Thank, Bill |

Re: HP ZV5000 - Yep its the power jack
dangerous? hardly so, all that's happening is instead of having the power being fed by a battery it's being fed by the wall outlet (with a ac to dc convertor of course). The problem is I don't want to fry the circuit board with running an improper voltage / amperage through the battery terminal and I Don't want to mix up the different pins.
Thanks for your caution though -- Before I'd lay down $150 to fix a friggin' HP I'd lay down in a grave. HP sucks aha I've read so many people with the same problem...if I can't find a decent pin diagram I'm going to have to buy a new laptop its not really worth putting $150 into because something else is likely to crap out a week later... but anyways thanks for your words of caution cause they were some pretty rough battery recalls that happened...I was aware of em though it was something to do with the actual cells in the batteries themselves -- not the terminals (which is why there was a lot of batterys replaces not motherboards/power supplies) if I was to get the power adaptor plug is there extra screws I could buy cause the previous owner took it apart and lost some and now I don't know what ones go where any diagrams ppl have or pics? Also I don't know how to fully disassemble the laptop I got close but there was still stuff needing to come apart that I could figure out Last edited by Gordie_h; 07-14-2007 at 09:29 AM. |

Re: HP ZV5000 - Yep its the power jack
I would definitely not modify the battery at all. Fixing a broken power jack is easy enough to do. That should be your first step, fix whats broken, don't break something else.
