Downloading problem

Hi, hope you can help me.
Laptop,Inspiron 1150, XP , SP2
Broadband, Wireless. Norton antivirus
Big problems downloading even a very small file. Download, which may have download time of just 2 minutes, starts fine and stops. May go as far as about 67% download .
This pertains for anything I am trying to download .
I have tried turning off Firewalls; no difference
Any suggestions?

Which Browser are you using Firefox or Internet explorer?
Are you using a router or just the modem.
Is the router wireless?
Do you get any error messages?

Brian I use IE, also a router and I have got no error messages.
