[SOLVED] Laptop will not boot

Hi all,
I have a Toshiba laptop that will not boot, as a matter of fact it won’t get past the Toshiba logo, when i turn it on, it just freezes up. I can’t even get it to start with WinXP disk in the CD-ROM. It wont even let me in the BIOS. I pushed F1, DEL nothing works. The only way to turn it off is to pull out the battery . I also tried it with no battery, only using the power cord. The same thing
happens.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Laptop will not boot

Thanks for the help
I don’t think I can run Memtest.
The laptop does not have a floppy drive, and if it did I can't even get into the BIOS and have it boot from the CDROM or any other device.

Yes, the display works it will say Toshiba and freeze.
I can hear the fan and HDD. The HDD lights and power lights also come on.
The Toshiba logo shows up on the screen, but it freezes before it boots to WindowsXP or even berfore I can tap F1 or DEL. If I do tap F1 or any key nothing happens.
it will say Toshiba on the display and nothing will happen I can't even turn it off unless I pull the battery out.

I tried that, I also swapped the memory with good memory form another computer I still get the same thing. So it probably not the Ram because the RAM worked well in another computer.

Re: Laptop will not boot

Most laptops will have a standard CMOS battery that is the same as a desktop. You will have to look on the bottom or under the keyboard for a small round battery. Remove this for at least 1/2 hour. Then put it back in. You will probably have to do a little more disassembling to get to it.

Remember laptops have components on both sides of the motherboard, so you will have to look on both sides to find it. Hopefully it will be on the bottom where its usually easier to get at.

I took the whole notebook apart. It was a long tedious process, i finally found a battery buried in it. it was soldered on.
I re soldered the battery and put it all back together (what a pain).
To my surprise I turned it on and it works great
Thanks to all for your wonderful help!

Re: [SOLVED] Laptop will not boot

You're welcome. I am surprised the battery was soldered in, I have never seen that and it is kind of stupid for manufacturers to do that.

Anyway, glad you fixed it.
