Need Data off of Crashed laptop

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 series notebook computer running Windows XP SP1

The system has been overrun by spy ware and malware, I was attempting to remove it all and actually thought I had gone pretty far, so I decided to install SP2. When I was installing I got errors about something in the registry and then when the update failed and I rebooted the system comes almost all the way up and then restarts. It does this even when I am put into safe mode.

I decided to run a repair against the already installed version of Windows…that seemed to be successful however the problem still remains. Eventually I would like to install a fresh version of Windows, but the data on the hard drive is very important how should I go about getting the data off that drive? Install Windows on a different partition?

Thanks.

Re: Need Data off of Crashed laptop

The best way to do this would be plug the drive into another computer. You could use this to hook the drive to any computer.

You can also use an adapter like this to attach your laptop drive to a desktop:

If you use this, just make sure the jumpers on correctly set on all of the drives.

Re: Need Data off of Crashed laptop

Thanks for the reply.

I was able to make use of secondary hard drive bay for another Dell Laptop and use that to copy the data.

That device will make things a lot easier in the future, I have already sent in my order!

Thanks again.
