I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the monitor is dark but I can see the windows screen barely. I have tried to lighten the screen does anyone have suggestions on what might be causing this. If it is not fixable can you replace just the monitor on the laptop (is it cost efficient?).

Re: Can you replace Laptop monitors?
The good news is that you can. The bad news is that the cost may be high and the work difficult. I suggest first checking with shops in your city for "scraptops" that have salvagable parts. The Satellite series laptops were quite common so there should be a good parts market, but screens are often snatched up quickly.

Re: Can you replace Laptop monitors?
Sounds like your backlight went. For some screens, you can replace just the backlight, although it might be more cost-effective to just buy a new screen (depending on the age of the computer).

Re: Can you replace Laptop monitors?
What's the model number of the laptop? If it's still under warranty, I'd suggest getting service from Toshiba. If it's out of warranty, and it's still relatively new, you might be better off having someone else do the work- especially if you're not confident opening it up and soldering, etc.
